Internet Privacy and Freedom (3/31/2018)
Internet privacy, and privacy in general is something I think people either don't give a shit about, or don't know the consequences of companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. having all of your personal information, your conversations, etc.
At first, people just assumed these companies were collecting your information to sell you more specific and targeted ads for products. What actually is happening is your device is being datamined as much as possible for any information it can use to build a profile about you using machine learning and artificial intelligence.
With the recent Facebook and Cambridge Analytica scandal, it's been revealed that these companies (Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) use our data to psychologically manipulate us for political power and control. Cambridge Analytica (CA) tested phrases such as "Drain the Swamp" around a year before the election campaigns took place, to see how people would use such phrases and react to them. During the election, CA would smear other candidates and people of significance by sending hookers to their homes to frame them, and make them look bad. With the use of ProtonMail, CA would communicate with their clients with a self-destruct timer on all emails to get rid of any evidence. Such clients included Donald Trump's campaign organization, this lasted until after Trump was elected. The deletion of such emails is in violation of the Presidential Records Act of 1978. Thus making the handling of said emails with the Trump Administration and Cambridge Analytica illegal.
Companies manipulating for political, economical, and total control over people is wrong. These companies are not your friend. Facebook does not want to connect you with people just to make you happy and remember good times with old friends you've had. They want to connect you to build a web of people you communicate and interact with, how you interact with them, and what you talk about with them. They use this information to make money off of you. It's not just Facebook. It's Google, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and so on. Encrypt. Encrypt. Encrypt. If something is free, you are the product.
